Epistrophe eligans
This is the commonest of the epistrophe hoverflies… yet I did not see one until April 2014… possibly because of the sharp eyes and good ID skills of the photographer. Ash takes such wonderful photos, I wonder if I’ll ever be as good. perhaps when I grow up…
So far as I know there is no common name… perhaps it is just known as ‘Hoverfly’ by most people if this is one of the commonest species.
